The Regional Centre for Medical Education Technology (RCMET), Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam serves as a Regional center for advancing excellence in medical education across allocated institutions. Established in alignment with the guidelines of the National Medical Commission (NMC), the centre plays a pivotal role in strengthening faculty competencies and promoting quality medical education.

RCMET focuses on the effective implementation of Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) through structured Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) such as Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME), Curriculum Implementation Support Program (CISP), and other advanced training modules.

The center actively supports Medical Education Units (MEUs) of affiliated colleges by providing academic guidance, training resources, and mentorship to enhance teaching-learning methods, assessment strategies, and educational research.

🎓 About Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME)

The Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME) is a foundational Faculty Development Program conducted by the Regional Centre for Medical Education Technology (RCMET), Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, in accordance with the guidelines of the National Medical Commission (NMC).

BCME is designed to equip medical faculty with essential competencies in teaching, assessment, and curriculum implementation, enabling them to effectively deliver Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME).

Curriculum Overview

The curriculum of the Regional Centre for Medical Education Technology (RCMET), Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam is designed in alignment with the National Medical Commission (NMC) Faculty Development Programme framework. It focuses on capacity building of medical educators and effective implementation of Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME).

Core Faculty Development Programs (FDPs)

  1. Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME)
    A foundational program aimed at equipping faculty with essential skills in:
  • Principles of adult learning and teaching methodologies
  • Curriculum planning and lesson design
  • Assessment methods and evaluation strategies
  • Microteaching and feedback techniques

This program serves as the entry-level training for all medical faculty as mandated by NMC. (Medical Dialogues)

  1. Curriculum Implementation Support Program (CISP)
    A structured training program designed to facilitate the implementation of CBME across medical colleges, covering:
  • Principles and framework of CBME
  • Integration (horizontal & vertical) and alignment
  • AETCOM module implementation
  • Early Clinical Exposure (ECE)
  • Electives and curricular governance

CISP ensures smooth transition to competency-based curriculum and is mandatory for institutional leadership and MEU members. (ipgmer.gov.in)

  1. Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME)
    An advanced level program focusing on:
  • Educational research and innovations
  • Leadership in medical education
  • Curriculum design and program evaluation
  • Development of resource faculty

Additional Training Modules & Activities

  • Training of Trainers (ToT) Programs for developing institutional resource faculty
  • Workshops on Assessment & Evaluation including OSCE/OSPE
  • AETCOM (Attitude, Ethics & Communication) Training
  • Simulation-Based Teaching and Skill Lab Training
  • Educational Research Methodology & Scientific Writing
  • Faculty Sensitization Programs on NMC Guidelines

RCMET AMC also supports Medical Education Units (MEUs) of allocated colleges through mentorship, onsite training, and monitoring of FDP implementation.

Training Approach

The curriculum follows a competency-based, learner-centered approach with emphasis on:

  • Hands-on activities and microteaching
