Day 1 – House Surgeons Orientation Program 2026

The Day 1 session of the House Surgeons Orientation Programme – 2026 was successfully conducted on 26th May 2026 at the Exam Hall, Panagal Block, Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam. The programme was organized jointly by Andhra Medical College and King George Hospital under the guidance of the Medical Education Unit (MEU).

The programme commenced with the inaugural session and welcome address delivered by Dr. K V S M Sandhya Devi, Principal, Andhra Medical College, and Dr. I. Vani, Superintendent, King George Hospital, who motivated the newly joined house surgeons to uphold the values of professionalism, discipline, compassion, and ethical medical practice throughout their internship training.

Dr. P. S. N. Raju from the Academic Section and Medical Education Unit delivered an engaging session on the Introduction to the Internship Programme and Expectations from House Surgeons, emphasizing the importance of clinical learning, patient-centered care, punctuality, communication skills, teamwork, and continuous self-improvement during internship.

This was followed by an informative lecture by Dr. A. S. V. Kartheek, Assistant Professor of Medicine, on the Duties and Responsibilities of House Surgeons, wherein the interns were oriented regarding ward duties, emergency responsibilities, patient management, documentation practices, and professional conduct within the hospital system.

A valuable and inspiring session on Professionalism, Ethics and Communication Skills was delivered by Dr. I. Vani, Superintendent, KGH, highlighting the importance of empathy, ethical behavior, effective communication with patients and attendants, respect for colleagues, and maintaining the dignity of the medical profession.

The Day 1 programme concluded with an interactive discussion and clarification session conducted by Dr. R. V. S. Kumar, CS RMO, KGH, during which the house surgeons actively interacted with faculty members and clarified doubts regarding internship schedules, hospital protocols, ward postings, and clinical responsibilities.

Overall, the first day of the orientation programme provided a meaningful introduction to internship training and reinforced the institution’s commitment towards developing competent, ethical, and compassionate future doctors under the esteemed legacy of Andhra Medical College and King George Hospital.
