8th CISP-III Workshop

at Regional Centre, Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam

Objectives of the Workshop

The CISP-III workshop was designed with the following key objectives:

– To strengthen the understanding of CBME among faculty.

– To emphasize the importance of aligning, integrating, and mapping competencies across different phases of the MBBS curriculum.

– To enhance the knowledge of assessment strategies aligned with competencies.

– To introduce concepts such as Early Clinical Exposure (ECE), Electives, AETCOM, Self-Directed Learning (SDL), and Reflective Writing.

– To build faculty capacity for effective implementation and monitoring of the CBME curriculum.

Participants

A total of 28 in-house faculty members from Andhra Medical College participated enthusiastically in this two-day training program. Participants represented various departments including Pre-clinical, Para-clinical, and Clinical specialties, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to the learning process.

Inauguration

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Sandhya Devi, Principal, Andhra Medical College, who emphasized the institution’s commitment to continuous faculty development and quality enhancement in medical education. The Regional Coordinator, NMC Nodal Centre, also addressed the gathering virtually and appreciated the proactive efforts of AMC in regularly conducting such programs.

The sessions were delivered by a team of trained and dedicated faculty members from the Medical Education Unit (MEU) and Regional Centre:

Over the two days, the following sessions were conducted:

– Overview of Competency-Based Medical Education

– Aligning and Integrating Teaching Across Phases

– Development and Mapping of Competencies

– Planning and Implementing Early Clinical Exposure

– Electives: Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation

– AETCOM Module Integration and Assessment

– Formative and Summative Assessment Strategies

– Reflection and Self-Directed Learning in CBME

– Role of Academic Leaders in Curriculum Implementation

All sessions were interspersed with group activities, brainstorming exercises, microteaching simulations, and real-time feedback, making the workshop highly engaging and reflective.

Feedback and Outcome

The feedback received from the participants was overwhelmingly positive. Faculty expressed improved clarity and confidence in applying CBME principles in their teaching and assessments. Many appreciated the simplified explanation of competency mapping and assessment blueprinting.

As a direct outcome of the workshop:

– Faculty committed to revisiting and revising their departmental logbooks and teaching plans.

– Interdepartmental collaboration plans were proposed to enhance horizontal and vertical integration.

– A follow-up mentorship and implementation strategy was agreed upon, to be reviewed periodically by the MEU.

Conclusion

The 8th CISP-III Workshop at AMC, Visakhapatnam served as an important milestone in building institutional capacity for CBME. It strengthened faculty ownership, pedagogical innovation, and alignment with the NMC vision of producing Indian Medical Graduates who are competent, compassionate, and ethical.

The Regional Centre, Andhra Medical College, remains committed to academic excellence through continuous faculty development and quality implementation of educational reforms.
