World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is celebrated annually from August 1st to 7th to promote breastfeeding as vital to the health and well-being of both infants and mothers. Coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), in collaboration with WHO and UNICEF, WBW highlights breastfeeding as a key component of child survival, health, and sustainable development.
Themes for 2025:
- WABA Theme: “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems” – urging long-term support across families, communities, workplaces, and healthcare to make breastfeeding a societal priority.
- WHO Theme: “Invest in Breastfeeding, Invest in the Future” – emphasizing financial, emotional, and policy support to maximize breastfeeding’s lifelong benefits for health, development, and economies.
On this occasion, under the guidance of Dr. P. Radha Kumari MD, Professor and HOD, Department of Community Medicine, Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam Organized a series of Awareness and Educational activities to promote the importance of breastfeeding.
- An awareness speech on the importance and significance of exclusive breastfeeding during the first 6months of life and the importance of postpartum nutrition was delivered by Dr. P. Radha Kumari, professor and Head of the Department and Dr. P.J.Srinivas, Associate Professor, department of Community Medicine in All India Radio as part of World Breastfeeding Week 2025 activities. This initiative emphasized the long-term health benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and infants. The program effectively reached a broad audience and contributed substantially to the promotion of breastfeeding practices within the community.
