Andhra Medical College Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervour

Visakhapatnam, 15 August 2026

The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at Andhra Medical College (AMC), Visakhapatnam, on 15 August 2026. Faculty members, students, non-teaching staff, and NCC cadets participated in the celebrations with great pride and devotion.

The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Dr. K. V. S. M. Sandhya Devi, Principal & Additional Director of Medical Education, Andhra Medical College, in the presence of the Vice Principals, Dr. G. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. A. Krishna Veni, and Dr. V. Raj Kamal, along with faculty members, students, staff, and invited guests.

The National Song – Vande Mataram was rendered, filling the atmosphere with patriotic fervour and devotion to the motherland. This was followed by the National Anthem – Jana Gana Mana and the National Salute, reaffirming the unity, dignity, and sovereignty of the Nation.

A major highlight of the celebration was the ceremonial parade and National Salute presented by the 4(A) Naval Medical Unit, NCC, Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam. The NCC cadets displayed exemplary discipline, precision, and commitment. Dr. K. V. S. M. Sandhya Devi inspected the Guard of Honour and congratulated the cadets for their outstanding performance.

During the programme, Dr. L. S. Gandhi Bhaskar was formally introduced as the new Associate NCC Officer (ANO) of the 4(A) Naval Medical Unit, NCC, Andhra Medical College. On the occasion, rank promotions were conferred upon NCC cadets in recognition of their leadership, discipline, commitment, and exemplary performance in NCC activities. The Principal congratulated the promoted cadets and encouraged them to continue serving with dedication and uphold the values of discipline and patriotism.

A significant highlight of the Independence Day celebrations was the presentation of Excellence and Meritorious Awards in recognition of outstanding service and contribution to medical education, healthcare, research, and public service.

The awards were presented by Sri Anagani Satya Prasad, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Revenue, Registration and Stamps, Government of Andhra Pradesh, in the presence of Sri Muttimbaku Abhishikth Kishore, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate of Visakhapatnam, and Dr. Sankabratha Bagchi, Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam City.

Dr. K. V. S. M. Sandhya Devi, Principal & Additional Director of Medical Education, Andhra Medical College, received the Excellence Award in recognition of her distinguished service, leadership, and contribution to medical education, healthcare administration, and public service.

The Meritorious Awards were received by Dr. A. Krishna Veni, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Naidu, Dr. Sreedevi, Dr. Srilakshmi, and Dr. P. S. N. Raju, in recognition of their meritorious services, dedication, and valuable contribution to Andhra Medical College and the healthcare sector.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. K. V. S. M. Sandhya Devi paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices secured India’s independence. She urged students and faculty to uphold the values of patriotism, integrity, compassion, and excellence in medical education, patient care, research, and community service. She emphasized the vital role of healthcare professionals in nation-building through dedicated service to society.

The celebrations were conducted under the theme:

“Nation First – Excellence in Medical Education, Service & Research.”

The program concluded with a renewed pledge by the faculty, students, staff, and NCC cadets to uphold the ideals of the Constitution and contribute wholeheartedly to the progress of the Nation through excellence in medical education, healthcare, research, and public service.
