Department of Anaesthesiology started in 1931 and along with all the operation theatres in King George Hospital. This department provides anesthesia services to other hospitals and institutes like: Govt ENT hospital, Govt TB and Chest Hospital, Regional Eye Hospital, GI Endoscopy Unit for ERCPs and RCD Hospital.

An Intensive Respiratory Care Unit was started in 1983 and modern anaesthetic services were initiated to be rendered to a number of General & Special Surgical services including Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Neurosurgery and Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery.
